Aiden had a brand-new job—being big brother to tiny baby sister. He rose onto his tiptoes and peeked into her crib. Such little fingers! Such a little nose! Mama smiled. “She is very lucky to have you.” Aiden loved his toy hammer. Bang, bang! Baby sister scrunched her face and woke with a cry. Aiden stopped. He looked at her, then at his hammer. “Oh,” he whispered. “That was too loud.” Mama showed Aiden how to make soft feet and a whispery voice. Aiden lifted his toes and crept like the quietest dinosaur in the world. Can you take one soft dinosaur step? Tiptoe… tiptoe… hush. Being calm felt like a superpower. Aiden picked up the fuzzy blanket with two gentle hands. He passed it to Mama—slowly, softly. Mama tucked baby sister in safely, and her eyes fluttered closed. Aiden beamed. His gentle hands had helped. The round moon glowed outside the window. Baby sister slept peacefully in her clear crib. Mama wrapped Aiden in a warm hug. “My gentle big brother,” she said. Aiden rested against her, quiet, proud, and loved.
