## The story text
The children followed Ranger Mina into the sunny farmyard. “Fwee-fwee!” called a tiny whistle. Everyone stopped. Even their boots stopped crunching. “Who made that sound?” whispered the children. The children looked at Ranger Mina’s shiny whistle. But it hung still against her khaki shirt. Ranger Mina smiled and placed one finger by her ear. “Fwee-fwee!” came the sound again—from behind the little wooden fence. Out popped Kurka—a round little hen with straw on her head. She puffed her chest, pursed her beak, and— “FWEE-FWEE!” The children’s eyes grew round. Ranger Mina’s eyes did too. The whistle belonged to Kurka! Kurka whistled high. “Fwee-fwee!” Ranger Mina answered low. “Whoo-whoo!” The children joined with gentle birdy sounds. High and low, soft and slow—the whole farmyard filled with music. Soon it was time to go. The children waved from the path. Kurka lifted one cream-tipped wing. “Fwee-fwee,” she sang, small and sweet. All the way home, the children carried her little song in their smiles.
