Momo Sees the World Upside Down

For slow lookers and all the worlds they find.

What's inside

Slow Morning Things Under Things Rain Through the Leaves Momo Shows the Way

Fast Wings, Fast Feet

Momo moves slowly beneath a branch while monkey and macaw hurry through the waking rainforest.

Morning flashed through the trees. Macaw flapped. Monkey leaped. Momo moved one slow paw.

Sweet Fruit This Way

Momo follows the other animals toward a distant golden fruit tree at a slow pace.

“Sweet fruit!” called Monkey. Everyone hurried left. Momo began to follow. Slowly. Softly. Momo-style.

A Forest in One Drop

Momo sees a tiny reflected rainforest inside a clear drop beneath a leaf.

A rain bead hung under a leaf. Inside it, Momo saw trees, sky, and one tiny sloth. Momo stopped.

Look Again

Momo discovers a caterpillar and tiny eggs beneath a large green leaf.

Over the leaf: green. Under the leaf: spots, eggs, and a fuzzy caterpillar. “Oh,” said Momo. “Hello.”

A Cup in a Tree

Momo meets a turquoise frog in rainwater held by a red bromeliad.

Momo reached a red bromeliad. Rainwater rested between its leaves. A turquoise frog peeked out.

Roots in the Air

Momo studies pale orchid roots curling through the damp air around a branch.

An orchid grew on a branch. Its pale roots curled in the damp air. Momo looked over. Looked under. Looked again.

A Door Begins to Open

Momo watches a blue butterfly slowly emerge from a chrysalis beneath a twig.

A green case trembled under a twig. Slowly, a butterfly came out. Its blue wings were soft and folded.

Still Here to See It

A bright blue butterfly opens its wings while Momo watches from beneath the branch.

The wings opened wide. Flash—blue as sky! The others were far away. Momo was still here to see it.

Rain Comes Rolling

Rain rolls across the broad rainforest as Momo and the other animals look for cover.

A cool wind moved the leaves. Gray clouds rolled over the trees. Plip. Plop. Then rain came everywhere.

This Leaf Leaks

Monkey and macaw get wet beneath leaves and branches that do not give enough shelter.

Monkey hid under a thin leaf. Drip! Macaw tried a little branch. Splash! Every quick shelter leaked.

Momo Remembers

Momo leads the wet animals toward thick leaves beside the red bromeliad.

Momo remembered a thick roof of leaves. It was near the frog’s red plant. “This way,” Momo called. Slowly. Clearly.

Dry Under Green

Momo and the other animals rest together beneath a wide roof of thick leaves.

The leaf roof was wide. Monkey tucked in. Macaw folded wet wings. Frog sat by Momo. Rain danced outside.

The Forest Shines

Momo shows the other animals thousands of shining drops after the rain.

The rain slowed. Every leaf wore a bead. Every bead held a tiny bright forest. “Look,” said Momo.

Over, Under, Again

Monkey, macaw, and frog look over and under leaves with Momo.

Monkey looked over a leaf. Macaw looked under. Frog looked again. They found eggs, roots, wings, and sky in a drop.

Sweet Fruit Can Wait

Momo tastes golden fruit while noticing the blue butterfly below.

The golden fruit still waited. Momo took one small bite. Then a blue wing flashed below. Momo looked again.

Momo-Style

Momo moves slowly through a glowing evening rainforest filled with hidden life.

Evening settled over the green world. Momo moved one slow paw. Slowly. Softly. Momo-style. The whole forest was there to see.

New words

Where we looked

This original animal story draws on stable rainforest observations: sloths naturally move slowly and often hang beneath branches; bromeliads can hold rainwater; many orchids grow on trees with exposed roots; and butterflies emerge from chrysalises. The animals speaking and traveling as a group is fiction.

The end

Look over. Look under. Look again. A small world may be waiting where you nearly hurried past.
