The Box That Said “Where To?”
For every box that was never only a box.
What's inside
The Box Knocks Down in the Blue Over the Green Up to the Moon
A Box at the Door

A big box sat by the door. It was empty. It was quiet. Then one flap went knock, knock.
Box, Box, Where To?

Rowan climbed in with Bun. “Box, box, where to?” The rug began to rumble. Chugga-chugga-choo!
Through Cushion Country

The box-train puffed past pillow hills. It crossed a ruler bridge and a tunnel under two chairs. Bun’s long ear flew back.
Last Stop: Sofa

Chuff… chuff… stop. The box bumped softly into the sofa. Rowan grinned. “Again. Somewhere new.”
Dive, Little Box

“Box, box, where to?” Blue blanket waves rose high. The box became a submarine. Down, down, down they went.
The Coral Cupboard

They sailed past cup corals and spoon fish. A sock octopus waved eight floppy arms. Bun waved one floppy ear.
A Whale Overhead

A great blue whale swam over the box. Whoooosh! Its shadow covered the reef. Rowan and Bun held very still.
Bubble Back Up

Bloop, bloop, bloop. The box rose through a thousand bubbles. It popped up beside the laundry-basket island.
Up Through Green

“Box, box, where to?” Two scarf wings spread. The box became an airship. Up through the green they flew.
Parrots by the Window

Red, blue, and yellow parrots swooped beside them. Below, toy monkeys crossed a vine from lamp to plant.
Rain on the Canopy

Tap-tap-tap went rain on the box. Big leaves opened below. Every drop made the green world shine.
Land on Pillow Peak

The airship floated down. Plump! It landed on the biggest sofa pillow. Bun rolled out giggling.
Stars in the Ceiling

“Box, box, where to?” The room grew dark. Paper stars glowed overhead. The box became a moon rocket.
Past the Sock Planets

Zoom! They passed striped sock planets, a colander moon, and a comet with a scarf tail. Home looked small and warm below.
Moon Picnic

The box landed on a white blanket moon. Rowan shared two crackers—one for Rowan, one for Bun. Earth-lamp glowed nearby.
Best Stop of All

The stars grew sleepy. The box came home. With one blanket and two pillows, it became a snug little den. “Here,” whispered Rowan.

Where we looked
This original story is pure imaginative play. Rowan never leaves the living room; familiar objects remain visible so very young readers can distinguish pretending from a real train, ocean dive, rainforest flight, or space journey. The cardboard box has broad hand holes and is used with a caregiver nearby.
The end
Your next journey may be waiting in a box, under a blanket, or between two sofa pillows.
