Story
The little red truck lived in the toy box under the window. Every morning, when the lid opened, he beeped once. Just once. Beep! That was his way of saying, I am ready. What do we need today?
This morning, Teddy Bear was stuck on the bottom shelf, and he wanted to see out the window from the top shelf. It was a long way up for a bear with stuffed legs. But the little red truck had an idea. He scooted close, Teddy climbed into the back, and vroom, vroom, vroom, they zoomed up the ramp of stacked books all the way to the top. Teddy looked out the window and saw a squirrel. He gasped. The little red truck beeped. Beep beep! You are welcome, Teddy.
Next, the wooden blocks needed to cross the whole playroom. One block in the truck bed. Vroom across the rug. One block delivered. Two blocks in the truck bed. Vroom, bump, vroom across the rug. Two blocks delivered. Three blocks stacked tall on the little red truck, wobbling left, wobbling right, and somehow, just barely, not falling. Three blocks delivered! The tower went up, up, up. The little red truck drove all the way around it to check. Perfect. Beep beep!
Then Dolly called from the hallway. She had never been to the kitchen table before and did not want to walk alone. Hop in, said the little red truck. Dolly sat up very straight, because she was that kind of doll. Vroom down the hall, around the chair leg, and up to the sunny spot on the kitchen table. Dolly looked around and smiled her painted smile. The little red truck beeped softly. Beep beep. There you go.
By the time the lid of the toy box opened one last time that evening, the little red truck was wonderfully, happily tired. His wheels were warm from all that vrooming. He rolled slowly inside and the lid came down, cozy and close. Then something small and gentle patted the lid twice. Pat, pat. Just like a beep, but with a hand. The little red truck understood. He beeped back, very quietly, one last time. Beep beep. Goodnight, everyone. I will be ready again tomorrow.

Good Morning, Little Red Truck

The lid of the toy box swung open, and morning light poured in like warm honey. The little red truck sat right at the top, his cherry paint catching the glow. Beep! Just once. That was his way of saying: I am ready. What do we need today?
Up, Up for Teddy

The little red truck scooted close, Teddy climbed into the back, and vroom, vroom, vroom — they zoomed up the ramp of stacked books all the way to the top shelf. Teddy looked out and gasped. Beep beep! You are welcome, Teddy.

A Ride for Dolly
